Barbara is an Internationally recognised conservation scientist with 40-years experience and leadership in fundamental research and management of Australia’s flora, fauna, terrestrial ecosystems. She has led the development of policy, land management and conservation programs in state and commonwealth jurisdictions. Her demonstrated skills and experience continue to attract research significant funding and industry engagements in landscape-scale and species management programs in Australia. Barbara is the author of books and chapters on the ecology and conservation of the Australian environment, has more than 70 scientific journal publications and 50 consultancy reports and has had visiting Professorial roles at the Institut für Forstzoologie und Waldschutz, Universität Göttingen, Germany and Yale University, New Haven, USA and is currently Adjunct Associate Profressor at Deakin University.
Mark has more than 30-years experience in research, conservation and management of threatened species and their habitats and Environmental Impact Assessment. His Award-winning work on digging mammals in forest and woodlands in Western Australia was the first to identify the link between our native fauna and the condition of Australian forest and woodland soils. Mark’s Project Management experience in very large resources infrastructure development projects is substantial. In his work in government Mark was lead author in the Western Australian state-wide Biodiversity Management Effectiveness Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. This work formed the basis for all Nature Conservation planning in WA and was the basis for the protection of Biological Diversity and Ecosystem Health and Vitality (Montreal Protocol) in the current WA Forest Management Plan (2014 to 2023). Mark currently undertakes audits of the management of High Conservation Values within forestry operations in Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia.
